NetSuite integrationDirect, real time, one system of record
Strong
Direct from the app, no middleware; a sale posts as invoice plus payment, a return as credit memo plus refund; changes sync every 5 minutes to daily by plan
Partial
"Built for NetSuite" SuiteApp (April 2025); 8 to 12 week implementations; the connector is run by a partner; "integration breaks during peak seasons" (a 50-store chain) ◇ connector ◆ retailer
Partial
Celigo at $750 to $2,150 a month plus $10,000 to $30,000 to set up, 12 to 24 weeks; or Oracle NetSuite's own Shopify connector (a SuiteApp) at $200 to $917 a month; orders reported 15 to 20 minutes late ◇ connector $ extra
Weak
Eagle is the ERP; NetSuite only through middleware (Workato, Commercient); hardware stores that left Eagle changed ERP ◆ retailer
Partial
A listed partner; integration runs through middleware; one jeweler kept order management in Teamwork beside NetSuite ◇ connector ◆ retailer
Weak
Third-party bookkeeping sync only (Bookkeep); "Clover doesn't connect with NetSuite" ◆ retailer
QuickBooks Online integration
Strong
The same direct model as NetSuite; sales tax follows the ERP's engine
Partial
Native and free; syncs when a register shift closes: "if a shift is left open, totals will not sync" (Lightspeed's own documentation)
Partial
Intuit's own connector; reviewers report the new version dropped inventory sync and loses refunds; a migration tool exists for stores leaving QuickBooks POS
Partial
A general-ledger export, manual at month end; Propello's QuickBooks link "oversold and doesn't work smoothly" (a reviewer, February 2025)
Weak
Through an iPaaS (Integrately) only; cost not published ◇ connector ? unverified

Webgility, Synder or Commerce Sync from $19 a month; "synchronization issues between Clover and third-party plugins" ◇ connector $ extra
Keeps selling offlineSales, and card payments, when the internet or the ERP is down
Strong
Each sale lands on the device first and posts when it can; a refused posting is fixed in the Console, not at the counter
Partial
Payments queue until the connection returns; reviewers: "when cloud has issues, you stuck with just iPad", "widespread outages do occur"
Partial
Sells offline, but no refunds, inventory updates or new customers; offline card payments are off by default and at the merchant's risk; "we can't take any payments offline" ◆ retailer
Partial
On-premises servers keep a store running locally; the cloud editions logged 2,700-plus incidents in a year (StatusGator); offline behavior is not documented ? unverified
Strong
Full offline with local storage and automatic sync; kept trading through the 2024 CrowdStrike failure, per the vendor
Partial
Must be switched on in settings beforehand; a multi-hour payment outage in September 2024; "when Clover goes down, we switch to cash only"

Strong
A native app, not a browser: search runs on the device, Wi-Fi or not, and a sale posts straight to the ERP in a fraction of a second
Partial
"Customers wait 30 seconds to 3 minutes for credit card transactions"; "app crashes at worst times"; the App Store rates its apps 2.1 to 3.2
Partial
A fast app (App Store 4.5), but printers and scanners "disconnect daily", a 2024 update added screens, and adding a discount "takes forever"

A native iPad app; no performance complaints found in a small review base
Partial
The Station Duo is "stable, fast"; the Flex and Mini draw "abundant software glitches" and lag at peak hours
Time to go liveFrom signing to the first real sale

4 to 6 weeks of data migration; 8 to 12 weeks with the NetSuite SuiteApp; "had to hire a person"
Partial
Hours for a Shopify store; 12 to 24 weeks once a NetSuite connector is in the plan

Best fit, in one line
A specialty store, or a chain, that runs its business in NetSuite or QuickBooks Online and wants the counter to be part of it from day one
A multi-store specialty retailer that values inventory tooling over ERP depth and will accept Lightspeed Payments
A brand whose online store is Shopify and whose ERP needs are modest, or handled by a consultant
A hardware, farm or paint store willing to make Eagle its system of record
An apparel or footwear chain of five stores or more with an omnichannel project and a budget for it
A one- to three-store shop that wants a terminal from its bank and keeps the books elsewhere

NetSuite's own SuiteCommerce InStore is left out as the product is set for end of life. Heartland Retail, Rain Retail, Retail Pro, RICS, Celerant and Korona were researched and set aside: none came up once in 160-plus conversations with retailers evaluating point of sale for NetSuite.

The four kinds, in short

A store that keeps its books in NetSuite or QuickBooks Online has four kinds of point of sale to choose from, and they differ less at the counter than in what happens after the sale.

Commerce platforms (Shopify POS, Clover) treat the store as an extension of a web shop or a merchant account: with the ERP reached through a connector sold separately. Specialty retail platforms (Lightspeed Retail, Teamwork Commerce) were built for the store first and reach NetSuite through a SuiteApp or middleware run by a partner. ERP-bundled POS (Epicor Eagle) is the opposite bet: the POS is the system of record, and retailers who want NetSuite change platforms rather than integrate. NetSuite's own SuiteCommerce InStore is widely reported to be winding down, which is why NetSuite stores are shopping.

ERP-native POS is the fourth kind, and usellit's: a real app on the counter that connects straight to NetSuite or QuickBooks Online, no middleware, so a sale posts as the right document at the ERP's price. usellit comes from SuiteRetail, builders of NetSuite-native POS since 2014 for hundreds of NetSuite retailers; it keeps what that proved and rebuilds the rest: a re-engineered sync, true offline selling, QuickBooks Online beside NetSuite, a published price list, a fourteen-day trial, and Spark AI at the counter.

Questions people ask

Which POS integrates natively with NetSuite?

usellit connects to NetSuite directly from the app, with no middleware. Lightspeed Retail has a partner-run SuiteApp; Shopify POS, Teamwork Commerce and Clover reach NetSuite through connectors such as Celigo, Integrately or Bookkeep; Epicor Eagle is its own ERP and is not built to feed NetSuite.

What replaced QuickBooks POS?

Intuit retired QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale on October 3, 2023 and named Shopify POS as its recommended replacement, with a migration tool. Stores on QuickBooks Online also use Lightspeed Retail (a native, free sync at shift close), Clover with a third-party app, or usellit, which posts straight to QuickBooks Online.

Which of these work offline?

All six sell offline to some degree. usellit and Teamwork Commerce keep selling and taking cards with local storage and automatic sync. Shopify POS cannot refund, update inventory or create customers offline, and offline card payments are off by default. Clover's offline mode must be switched on in advance. Lightspeed queues payments; reviewers report outages. Epicor Eagle depends on its on-premises server.

Which POS forces you to use its own payment processing?

Lightspeed Payments is mandatory in the US and Canada, with a monthly fee for using another processor. Shopify's card readers work only with Shopify Payments, and other processors carry a 0.6% to 2% surcharge. Clover hardware is paired to the Fiserv merchant account. usellit runs on Square or Stripe at your own rates; Teamwork leaves processing to your provider.

How long does each take to go live?

Clover's hardware is working in under a day and usellit's trial runs on your own catalog the same day. Shopify POS takes hours for a Shopify store but 12 to 24 weeks once a NetSuite connector is involved. Lightspeed quotes 4 to 6 weeks of migration, 8 to 12 with NetSuite. Teamwork plans 30 to 60 days. Epicor Eagle is a months-long implementation.

Is this comparison independent?

No. usellit wrote it. The facts and prices are drawn from vendor documentation and public review sites, checked on the date shown, with sources listed; review excerpts are the reviewers' opinions; items marked "retailer" are what retailers told us in conversation and are unverified. Read it as a well-sourced argument, and check the sources.

Method and sources

Where the facts come from, and how the circles were set

Method

  • Review sites read on the date shown: Capterra, G2, GetApp, Software Advice, TrustRadius, Trustpilot, BBB, the Apple App Store and Google Play; plus vendor documentation, status pages, trade press and consultants' guides.
  • Conversation evidence: notes and transcripts from more than 160 conversations with retailers and partners evaluating point of sale, January 2025 to September 2026, searched by product name. Counts are of conversations, not customers.
  • Circles weigh documented capability first, then the balance of recent (2024 to 2026) reviews, then conversations. A single reviewer never moves a circle on its own.
  • No site publishes an "ease of setup" score; ease-of-use scores stand in where quoted.
